Next stop New York for Untapable

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Untapable will be considered for the Acorn or Mother Goose stakes for her next start, trainer Steve Asmussen said Wednesday, the second day for the filly to go to the track since she dominated the Kentucky Oaks last Friday at Churchill Downs.

Asmussen typically breezes his horses nine days after a race but said he’d “most likely skip” a work this Sunday for Untapable “and maybe wait another week before we let her get back into a nice rhythm.”

Both the $750,000 Acorn and $300,000 Mother Goose are major events in the 3-year-old filly division. They will be run three weeks apart at Belmont Park on June 7 and June 28. The Grade 1 Acorn is run at a mile, and the Grade 1 Mother Goose is one-sixteenth of a mile longer.

Untapable, bred and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, was an even-money favorite in capturing the Oaks by 4 1/2 lengths and coming within 0.04 seconds of the stakes record with her final time of 1:48.68.

“She went back to the track [Tuesday] and has been just wonderful,” Asmussen said.
