Next start undecided for Vigil winner Really Sharp

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – After relinquishing the lead late in the Jacques Cartier Stakes on April 13, Really Sharp reversed his fortunes last Sunday, holding off Occasional View in the final strides to win the Grade 3, $153,400 Vigil Stakes under jockey Steven Bahen.
“We were hoping we could settle a little bit off of the lead, and it went great,” said winning trainer Ian Black. “He had lots of horse turning for home, and he stayed on well. I think that was the best race he ever ran.”
The Vigil was Really Sharp’s fifth start and his first win since returning from a stress fracture in his shin that forced him to miss most of 2013. It also was the first graded stakes win for the 4-year-old son of Sharp Humor, who is owned by breeders Richard and Nancy Kaster.
Black had no specific race in mind for Really Sharp’s next start.
“He’s run four or five times already this year; we’ll wait and see what there is,” he said. “There are limitations somewhat on the Poly for sprinters here through the summer, so either we go to the grass or try to stretch him.”
