Newspaperofrecord probable for June 6 Wonder Again Stakes

Newspaperofrecord, who suffered her first defeat when second to Concrete Rose in the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 2, will likely make her next start in the Grade 3, $200,000 Wonder Again Stakes at Belmont on June 6, trainer Chad Brown said Tuesday.
In her first start since winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, Newspaperofrecord appeared to be cruising on the front end in the Edgewood. But she weakened in the stretch and gave no resistance to Concrete Rose who galloped past Newspaperofrecord to win by 3 3/4 lengths.
“I don’t think I had her fit enough to endure those kind of fractions on the front end and still finish against a really good filly like Concrete Rose,” Brown said “I’ll blame myself for that. I think she should be fit now and I’ll have her prepared the next time she runs.”
Brown said he is leaning toward leaving Newspaperofrecord in New York for the Wonder Again pending a final conversation with owner Seth Klarman.
The Wonder Again is the local prep for the Grade 1, $750,000 Belmont Oaks on July 6.
