Newbury: Hawk Wing romps in Lockinge

The International Racing Bureau|May 17, 2003

Hawk Wing did all the things that had been expected of him last year when he led all the way to win the Group 1 Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes by 11 lengths at Newbury Saturday.

Under rider Mick Kinane, Hawk Wing immediately took command, with Domedriver and Where or When following him. Hawk Wing drew steadily clear in the last 350 yards of the one-mile race to win over Where or When.

Hawk Wing, who was running for the first time since October, will likely run next at Royal Ascot, either in the Queen Anne Stakes June 17 or the Prince of Wales's Stakes the following day. The Queen Anne is over a straight mile, like the Lockinge, while the Prince of Wales's Stakes is two furlongs longer. Hawk Wing is trained by Aidan O'Brien.
