New York stallion War Dancer debuts with $5,000 stud fee

Rockridge Stud in Hudson, N.Y., released its advertised fees for the 2017 breeding season, including newcomer War Dancer.
The 6-year-old son of War Front will stand for a fee of $5,000 and will be offered through the “Share the Upside” program on a limited basis for $7,500.
War Dancer won six of 30 starts over four seasons of racing for earnings of $1,068,925. His most notable victories came in the Grade 2 Virginia Derby and Grade 3 Louisville Handicap, and his seven graded placings include a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Man o’War Stakes.
Bred in Kentucky by Cherry Hill Farm and Stuart Janney III, War Dancer is out of the Grade 2-placed Alydeed mare Deed I Do, who is the dam of seven winners from eight foals to race.
Rockridge Stud’s returning roster is led by a trio of stallions advertised at $5,000, all unchanged from the previous year.
Giant Surprise, a 7-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway, has two crops of racing age and was led by a pair of stakes winners in 2016.
Honorable Dillon, a 6-year-old Tapit horse, has his first crop of yearlings in 2017.
Micromanage, a 6-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro, covered his first book of mares during the most recent breeding season.
The only year-to-year movement in advertised fees among the Rockridge roster was champion sprinter Trinniberg, a 7-year-old son of Teuflesberg whose fee decreases to $3,500 from $5,000. Trinniberg’s first foals are 2-year-olds of 2017.
