New York Groove stays perfect in Glorious Song Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – New York Groove ($3.40) remained unbeaten with an easy 4 1/2-length score in Sunday’s $100,400 Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine.
New York Groove tracked the leading Ima Beast through honest fractions in the seven-furlong sprint for 2-year-old fillies. She hit the front early in the stretch, and then opened up a clear lead before coasting home on top over another shipper, Mom’s Red Lipstick, in a time of 1:22.56.
Tortuga finished third, and Battleofwinterfell was along for fourth in the seven-horse field.
Pablo Morales rode New York Groove, who is based in Maryland with trainer Mike Trombetta. He said he picked up the mount on the daughter of Verrazano because regular rider Antonio Gallardo was unavailable.
“I was really excited about riding her today,” Morales said. “She’s so calm and quiet and collected. She’s breaks super good, and then when you ask her to relax, she just starts to completely gallop around there. When you ask her, you can really feel her changing gears and taking off. She has a huge stride. She’s the real deal.”
New York Groove banked $60,000 in her fourth outing for Commonwealth New Era Racing. She made all three of her previous starts at Presque Isle Downs, where she won the Presque Isle Debutante.
