He returned to the U.S. to win the Grade 2 Belmont Sprint Championship Stakes and finish sixth in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saragota. The campaign finished with a third in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Del Mar and a runner-up effort in the Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct. He was an Eclipse Award finalist for champion male sprinter. The horse returned to the U.A.E. this spring to win the Dubai Golden Shaheen for a second year in a row, which boosted his earnings to a New York-bred record $3,719,286. The figure surpassed the previous titleholder Funny Cide at $3,529,412. Jazzmane, the dam of Mind Your Biscuits, was named New York’s broodmare of the year. The Toccet mare out of Stop the Music mare Alljazz was sold to Korean interests at the 2013 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Chester and Mary Broman were named New York’s breeders of the year for a second straight year, and for the fifth time overall. The Bromans previously took home the honors in 2004, 2011, 2014, and 2016. Their breeding operation was led by homebred Bar of Gold, who was the upset winner of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, and earned the NYTB’s female sprinter and older dirt female honors on Monday. Other notable runners bred by the Bromans included Grade 2 winner Highway Star and stakes winner Held Accountable. Linda Rice was named outstanding trainer of New York-breds, with 72 statebred wins, three stakes victories, and earnings of $3,520,844. It was her sixth time winning the award, having previously won in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Irad Ortiz Jr. was named the top jockey aboard New York-breds, winning 139 races, 11 stakes races, and compiling earnings of $8,725,595. He also won the award in 2013 and 2016.
