OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The New York-breds Eloquent Speaker and Rossa Veloce head a six-horse field of fillies and mares in an open-company second-level allowance/optional $62,500 claiming sprint that serves as the feature on Friday’s eight-race card at Aqueduct. A new month brings a new schedule and post time for racing on this circuit. In March, racing will be conducted three days a week (Friday through Sunday) with a first post of 1:20 p.m. for eight- and nine-race cards. Friday’s card has a $52,580 pick-six carryover, beginning in race 3 (2:22 p.m. Eastern). :: For the first time ever, our premium past performances are free! Get free Formulator now! In the 6 1/2-furlong feature, Eloquent Speaker will be making her first start for owner Gary Barber, who purchased the 5-year-old daughter of Flatter for $200,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky winter mixed sale on Feb. 9. She will be trained by Chris Englehart for this start, but the plan is for Eloquent Speaker to eventually go to Mark Casse. Before being sold, Eloquent Speaker had raced three times in 23 days. On Dec. 17, six days after being claimed by Natalia Lynch for $45,000, Eloquent Speaker won a first-level allowance. On Jan. 2, she finished second, a neck behind Bank Sting, in the $100,000 La Verdad Stakes. Englehart has had Eloquent Speaker only for a few weeks and blew her out three furlongs in 36.75 seconds over the Belmont training track on Feb. 22. “I don’t have anything to compare her to, but she’s doing good,” Englehart said. “She worked good.” Kendrick Carmouche rides Eloquent Speaker from the rail. Rossa Veloce, one of three being offered for the $62,500 tag, is coming off a two-length victory at 14-1 odds in a New York-bred second-level allowance on Feb. 6. Jalon Samuel is up, replacing apprentice Aisla Morrison, who is now in Florida. “She’s in good form,” trainer Ray Handal said. “It’s the right kind of race. I think we’re pretty live there.” Handal also sends out Dealing Justice, who has caught three consecutive wet tracks when running fourth twice and a well-beaten third in this condition. “I just want to see what she’s like on a regular track,” said Handal, who has Dylan Davis on Dealing Justice. Royal Meghan, Tara’s Talent, and Shesalittle Edgy complete the field. Race 5 is a first-level allowance at 1 1/8 miles where Winter Pool figures to be favored for trainer Chad Brown. Winter Pool comes off a second-place finish to repeating winner Waxman in this condition on Jan. 9. Southern District, third in that race, came back to win his next start with a 100 Beyer Speed Figure. King Kumbalay, seventh in that Jan. 9 race, won at Parx in his next start and is back in this spot. Three Jokers returns off a second in this condition going a mile on Feb. 5. On Dec. 12, the New York-bred Three Jokers finished second in a one-mile race where Winter Pool ran fourth. Three Jokers is 0 for 3 with two seconds at 1 1/8 miles. “The mile and an eighth might be a little bit of a stretch, but it looks like he could be controlling speed in there,” said John Terranova, trainer of Three Jokers. “He’s gone the mile and an eighth before and been right there. Maybe a little less early pressure will help.”
