New York bans Autrey for 30 days

David Grening|Mar 04, 2010

The New York stewards have suspended trainer Cody Autrey 30 days and fined him $1,000 for the finding of a banned substance in one of his horses who raced at Aqueduct in December. Autrey has appealed the suspension and was granted a stay.

Geno Green, who finished second in the first race at Aqueduct on Dec. 26, was found to have the bronchial dilator clenbuterol in his system.

"We stopped four days out and it stayed in his system too long," Autrey said by phone Thursday afternoon. "It's just one of those things that happens. It's part of the game. I just wanted to see if that's the mandatory penalty. I turned it over to my attorney and told him to look into it.''

Autrey, spending his first winter in New York, has 8 wins from 54 starters at the meet.
