New Year's Eve allowance feature draws 10
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A pair of allowance races highlight Sunday’s 11-race program, the final card of 2017 season, including a second-level allowance/optional $50,000 claimer to be decided at 1 1/16 miles on the turf for a $61,000 purse.
The main event attracted a well-matched field of 10 horses, led by Chunnel, whose three-race win streak came to a halt over the main track in the Claiming Crown Jewel; the Mike Maker-trained duo of War Stroll and Flashy Chelsey; Blue Harbor; and Tasit.
A pair of five-furlong turf sprints worth $75,000 each will highlight Monday’s special New Year’s Day program.
The Janus will have Hogy exiting his 11th-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. The Grade 3 winner will face a field that also includes multiple stakes winners Successful Native and Extravagant Kid.
The Abundantia, for fillies and mares, is led by Grade 3 winner Code Warrior and local favorite Brandy’s Girl.

Dak Attack tops Mucho Macho Man noms
The $100,000 Mucho Macho Man on Jan. 6, the first major test for 3-year-olds here in 2018, attracted 25 nominations, led by Dak Attack, Bal Harbour, and Santiamen.
Dak Attack is perfect in two starts and won the Ellis Park Juvenile in his 2-year-old finale. Bal Harbour closed out his 2-year-old campaign with victories in the Sapling at Monmouth Park and Smooth Air here on Dec. 9, while Santiamen was a runaway winner of his only two starts.
The Mucho Macho Man will be contested at one mile and is one of five stakes here on Jan. 6.
Singing Bullet stumbles in Pegasus prep
Rich Daddy rallied from off the pace to wear down Flowers for Lisa and capture Friday’s $52,000 optional-claiming feature. The win was the third in the last five starts for the former $12,500 claimer, who has not finished worse than second during that streak. Javier Castellano was aboard Rich Daddy for trainer Eddie Kenneally.
The big disappointment was Singing Bullet, who was using the race as a potential prep for the $16 million Pegasus World Cup. Singing Bullet stumbled leaving the gate, trailed early, fanned wide with his rally in the stretch, only to flatten out and finish fourth as the 4-5 favorite.
