New Money Honey gets back on track

ELMONT, N.Y. – In a span of five days, the winners of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and Juvenile Fillies Turf won stakes at Belmont Park, and now they are set to contest the two biggest prizes at this track for 3-year-olds on the grass.
On Thursday, New Money Honey scored a front-running two-length victory in the Grade 3 Wonder Again Stakes. Her Chad Brown-trained stablemate Fifty Five finished second. In a race without pace, New Money Honey was sent to the lead by jockey Javier Castellano and never looked back.
In her previous start, New Money Honey had finished sixth in the Appalachian at Keeneland.
“It was nice to see her adapt to the situation,” Brown said. “Her race at Keeneland was a real puzzler. I’ll chalk it off to her not caring for the turf course, which some horses don’t. The way she finished, I was impressed with her performance, and she’s come back like she didn’t have a whole lot taken out of her.”
New Money Honey and Fifty Five will be aimed at the $1 million Belmont Oaks Invitational at 1 1/4 miles on July 8.
New Money Honey won the Wonder Again five days after BC Juvenile Turf winner Oscar Performance won the Pennine Ridge, which will set him up for the Grade 1, $1.2 million Belmont Derby Invitational on July 8.
