New Mandate may go in BC Juvenile after Royal Lodge win
Supremacy wired the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes in a game performance, Alcohol Free desperately held off Miss Amulet and Umm Kulthum, and New Mandate punched his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on a card highlighted by 2-year-old racing Saturday at Newmarket in England.
New Mandate, trained by Ralph Beckett, won his third race in a row, coming home strongly under Frankie Dettori to win the Group 2 Royal Lodge, a straight mile that’s part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series, offering an automatic fees-paid entry into the BC Juvenile Turf. Beckett in post-race comments suggests New Mandate’s connections would look to take the expenses-paid trip to Keeneland with this son of New Bay and the Authorized mare Mishhar.

Alcohol Free, making just her third start, held on bravely to win the six-furlong Cheveley Park by a half-length. Oisin Murphy rode the winner, a daughter of No Nay Never and Plying, by Hard Spun, for trainer Andrew Balding.
In the Middle Park, another straight six-furlong race, it was Supremacy and jockey Adam Kirby turning back all challengers to post a half-length victory over favored Lucky Vega, with Minzaal a well-beaten third. Trainer Clive Cox said he views Supremacy, a son of Mehmas and Triggers Boom, by Arcano, as a sprinter and will aim for the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs next June rather than a Guineas race at one mile.
