New faces join Remington Park jockey colony
Jockeys Isaac Castillo, Luis Fuentes, and Harry Hernandez are among the new faces set to base at the Remington Park meet that opens Aug. 18. Entries for the first card of the season are being taken Thursday.
Castillo is coming in from Monmouth Park at the request of Remington’s all-time leading owner, Danny Caldwell, said agent Dylan Fazio.
“Danny Caldwell always supported us at Oaklawn and he wanted us to come down there,” Fazio said Tuesday. “We rode the last five or six days of the meet there last year and we did well."
Castillo went 5 for 25 at the end of the meet last season at Remington.
“Hopefully, we’ll build our business for Oaklawn,” Fazio said. “There are a lot of barns there that transfer very well to Oaklawn.”

Castillo is scheduled to be in town Tuesday. He is currently tied for fourth in the standings at Monmouth.
Harry Hernandez is the current leading rider at Canterbury Park. He will be based at Remington for the first time and on Thursday began being represented in this market by Cody Autrey. The agent said Hernandez is making the move to Remington because there is no meet at Turf Paradise.
Autrey said Luis Fuentes also will be riding at Remington. Fuentes won last season’s title at Sunland Park. Autrey began representing him this spring at Lone Star Park.
Autrey also is the agent for Cristian Torres, who won last year’s title at Remington. Autrey said the rider is now based in Kentucky will remain there until the start of Oaklawn meet in December. Autrey said Torres would travel to Remington for stakes engagements.
Thursday’s entries will include the field for the opening-night feature, the $100,000 Governor’s Cup.
