Nevin suspended seven days for My Boy Tate medication overage

Trainer Michelle Nevin on Sunday will begin serving a seven-day suspension for an overage of the therapeutic medication prednisolone found in My Boy Tate after he won the $50,000 Leon Reed Memorial Stakes at Finger Lakes last Oct. 11. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid that is a Class 4 drug, the second-lowest on the classification system used by the Association of Racing Commissioners International.
Nevin was one of three trainers who had an overage of prednisolone at New York tracks during a six-day period last October. Ok Honey, trained by Oscar Barrera III, tested positive for the medication after finishing second in a race at Finger Lakes on Oct. 13. Catch That Party, trained by Jeremiah Englehart, also tested positive for prednisolone after finishing second in New York-bred allowance at Belmont Park on Oct. 17.

Barrera served a seven-day suspension that ended on Thursday. Englehart served a seven-day suspension in February. All three trainers were fined $500.
The horses in question were all disqualified from purse money and ordered unplaced in the order of finish. In the case of My Boy Tate, his connections - Nevin who is part-owner along with Little Red Feather Racing - forfeited the $30,000 first-place purse.
Lady’s Golden Guy, owned and trained by Debra Breed, is now the recognized winner of the Leon Reed.
At the time that Englehart served his suspension, he mentioned there were two other horses who tested positive for the medication. Since those occurred at Finger Lakes, the penalties were not announced until that track opened.
Englehart said that all three horses were treated around the same time and by the same veterinarian, Donald Baker.
In the gaming commission rulings regarding Nevin and Barrera, the amount of prednisolone detected in the post-race samples was in excess of the permitted threshold of 1 ng/ml in plasma.
Nevin, who began training in 2013, has won 417 races, with her most notable runners being multiple graded winners By the Moon and Paulassilverlining. My Boy Tate, a New York-bred gelding, has won five stakes.
