Net a Bear gets up to extend stakes streak in Magnolia

Net a Bear won her third consecutive stakes race Friday, when she was up for a half-length victory over Quik Fast N Ahurry in the in the $100,000 Magnolia at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.
The seven furlong race was for fillies and mares bred in Louisiana. It had first been carded for Oct. 15, but when issues with Delta’s new track lighting system led to the cancellation of half of the card, it was rescheduled.
Jockey Timothy Thornton, who won with seven of his nine mounts on last Saturday’s card at Delta, was aboard Net a Bear ($4.20). She trailed the field through an opening quarter in 23.30 seconds, moved up through a half-mile in 47.76, and completed the two turns on a fast track in 1:26.88.
Thornton has teamed with Net a Bear throughout her current win streak. He guided her to a 1 3/4-length victory over open company in the $60,000 Opelousas on July 2 at Evangeline Downs. One start later, Net a Bear captured the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Distaff on Aug. 21 at Louisiana Downs.
Allen Landry trains Net a Bear, a daughter of Awesome Bet who was winning her sixth career stakes, for Maximo Lamarche and Federico Deltoro. Net a Bear has now won 8 of 27 career starts, for earnings of $412,070.
