Nest under consideration for Belmont Stakes

This Saturday, the Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath will take on the boys in the $1.5 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico.

In three weeks, Kentucky Oaks runner-up Nest may take on the boys in the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes.

Trainer Todd Pletcher, who won the 2007 Belmont Stakes with the filly Rags to Riches, said Nest is a possibility for the Belmont, pending what happens this Saturday in Baltimore and how his filly trains over the next few weeks.

Nest is by Curlin and owned by Mike Repole and Aron Wellman. She has won three stakes around two turns, including the Grade 1 Ashland at Keeneland. Two-turn graded-stakes options for 3-year-old fillies are somewhat limited, with the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks at 1 1/8 miles being run at Saratoga on July 23.

Nest is coming off a second-place finish as the favorite to Secret Oath in the Kentucky Oaks and is scheduled to return to the work tab on Friday. Pletcher is also expected to work Mo Donegal on Friday. The Kentucky Derby fifth-place finisher, Mo Donegal is definitely pointing to the Belmont Stakes.
