Trainer Jamie Ness recorded his 1,000th career win Thursday evening at Presque Isle Downs. Afleet Ashley ($5.20) won the ninth race under Pablo Morales for the 35-year-old Ness, the second-leading trainer in the country by wins. Ness also leads the trainer standings at Presque Isle. Afleet Ashley is owned by Midwest Thoroughbreds, the leading owners in the country by number of wins. “It crept up fast,” Ness said. “I had no idea I was even close until I won a few at Thistledown the other day and they announced it.” Ness began training full time in 2004. “I have been fortunate to have some great horses, and any time you train for Midwest Thoroughbreds you are going to win races,” he said. “I am fortunate to train for them and my other great owners.”
