Nelson pilots winners of both CTHS Sales Stakes divisions
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEAbove the Moon was all out to beat Dune d’Oro by a nose in the colts and geldings division of the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes at Century Downs. He paid $4.20 for his gutsy win in the seven-furlong dash.
Ridden by Dane Nelson, Above the Moon posted a final time of 1:25.10.
Following a lengthy inquiry by the stewards Dune d’Oro was disqualified to third for drifting out and interfering with Greek Geek at the top of the stretch.
Above the Moon broke from the outside post in the seven-horse field and went three wide the whole way while chasing Dune d’Oro and Greek Geek. Dune d’Oro opened up a length advantage at the eighth pole, but Above the Moon wore him down late. Greek Geek was between Dune d’Oro and Above the Moon when he had to steady at the top of the stretch. It really wasn’t clear from the video replay who caused the interference, and it took quite a while before the stewards determined Dune d’Oro drifted out.
Based at Hastings with trainer Phil Hall, Above the Moon is a homebred son of Harbor the Gold owned by Peter Redekop.
In the fillies division, heavily favored Pearl of Knowledge paid $2.60 for her 5 3/4-length victory over Quinn Ella.
With Nelson aboard, Pearl of Knowledge dueled with Music At Work for a half-mile before taking control on the stretch turn. Quinn Ella rallied to finish a neck in front of Music At Work, who finished third in the four-horse field.
The final time was 1:25.30.
The Alberta-bred daughter of Cape Canaveral is owned by Don Danard and Jim Juris.
The winner and runner-up are trained by Greg Tracy.
