Neiman scores at a price in Budweiser Stakes
Neiman stole the show from local favorites Papa's Golden Boy and Slew's Tiz Whiz in the Budweiser Stakes run over six furlongs Sunday at Emerald Downs.
Trained by Justin Evans, Neiman was quick enough to race right with a somewhat-reserved Papa's Golden Boy through early splits of 21.80 and 43.64 before asserting himself and drawing away by 1 1/2 lengths in the end. Mike Abraham and Pierre and Leslie Amestoy own the winner, who covered six furlongs in 1:07.98 over a fast track with Luis Reyes in the irons.
Slew's Tiz Whiz, winner of the Longacres Mile in 2022, came from off the pace to be second and it was another 1 3/4 lengths back to Papa's Golden Boy, who held on well to be third as the 2-1 betting favorite.

In the winner's circle, trainer Evans told of having not long ago sent a text message to Neiman's owners which read: "I predict [Neiman] wins a stakes pretty soon," and that the response was, "I'm gonna hold you to it."
Neiman paid $39.86 on the nose though he took noteworthy action in all multi-race exotics pools. The gelding has now won four of his last five and he broke very poorly in the lone loss at Sunland Park on March 15.
