HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Navy Seal became a stakes winner Sunday, when he rallied for a 1 1/4-length victory over Willow Creek Road in the $150,000 Nodouble Stakes at Oaklawn Park. It was another half-length back in third to Lochmoor, who is a half-brother to Navy Seal.
The Nodouble was a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Arkansas.
Navy Seal ($26) settled off the pace as 4-5 favorite Bohemian Bo set fractions of 22.40 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.95 for the half-mile. Navy Seal advanced on the turn and put in a determined stretch run to get to the front in the later stages. Navy Seal covered the distance on a fast track in 1:10.46.
Julien Leparoux was aboard Navy Seal for trainer Nancy Knott.
Navy Seal is a son of Midshipman and the mare Copperelle. Navy Seal became his dam’s fourth stakes winner, behind Weast Hill, who earned $499,852; Lochmoor, who has earned $495,375; and Usual Suspect, who has made more than $100,000.
Navy Seal, who races for different connections than Lochmoor, is now 7 for 41 for earnings of $512,504.
