Navarro hopeful X Y Jet will be ready for Breeders' Cup Sprint

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Jorge Navarro said that X Y Jet is getting closer to having his first work on the comeback trail, and that he remains hopeful X Y Jet will be ready to compete in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
X Y Jet was sidelined by a knee chip discovered shortly after his gritty second-place finish in the Dubai Golden Shaheen in March. That loss snapped a five-race win streak, which included Grade 3 wins last winter in the Mr. Prospector and Gulfstream Park Sprint. X Y Jet is owned by Gelfenstein Farm and Buckingham Ranch, which bought a substantial interest in the horse prior to the Golden Shaheen.
“He’s training right now like I’ve never see him train before,” said Navarro. “Right now, I plan to give him his first work in about two weeks, and hopefully will be able to look for a race for him in mid-September to get something in before the Breeders’ Cup. There’s no rush with him. If he’s ready, fine, if not, we’ll give him additional time. We’re not going to do anything that will hurt the horse just to make the Breeders’ Cup. But the way he’s training at the moment, if we don’t have any setbacks, I think he should make it.”
