Pickin’ Time earned a career-best 82 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory in the one-turn mile Nashua, which followed a victory in the six-furlong Smoke Glacken Stakes at Monmouth Park in September. Trevor McCarthy rode Pickin’ Time in the Nashua.
Pickin’ Time is a New Jersey-bred son of Stay Thirsty owned and bred by John Bowers and is a half-brother to six winners, including Royal Urn, a New Jersey-bred stakes winner from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles.
“He deserves a try,” said Kelly Breen, the trainer of Pickin’ Time. “When he first came in, he was one of our biggest 2-year-olds. We thought, boy, he’s going to really like the distance. I said that to Trevor: ‘He’s big, he’s strong, he should like the distance and maybe more distance.’ ”
