Narrow margins in major Quarter Horse races
Some major Quarter Horse races were narrow decisions Saturday night at Remington Park, where Lovethewayyoulie edged Bv Travelin Soldier by a nose in the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity and Bon Accord won the Grade 1, $250,000 Invitational by the same margin over Llano Cartel.
The races anchored a program worth more than $2 million. The penultimate card of the meet also featured the Grade 2, $257,050 Heritage Place Derby, which This Dude Can Fly ($5) won by a head over Rocketair.
Lovethewayyoulie ($17.20) was the fastest qualifier on the first of two days of trials for the Heritage Place Futurity. In the finale, she broke on top and was always prominent while covering 350 yards on a fast track in 17.37 seconds. Cody Jensen was aboard for trainer Toby Keeton.
“She’s just so quick away from the gate,” Jensen said. “I didn’t have to do a whole lot after that.”
Keeton was well pleased with the effort from the developing Lovethewayyoulie.
“The filly, she’s blossomed,” Keeton said. “You always look to see if a horse is blossoming between the trials and finals.”
Keeton said Lovethewayyoulie would be considered for the Firecracker Futurity.
Lovethewayyoulie is a Texas-bred daughter of Tempting Dash who races for Tyler Graham and Conda Maze. Graham co-bred Lovethewayyoulie with Franklin Collins.
In the Invitational, a 440-yard race for 3-year-olds and up, Bon Accord got the bob over favorite Llano Cartel and paid $33.40. He covered the distance in 21.10 seconds and with the win earned a berth into the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos.
Remington closes its meet Sunday.
