OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Napoleon Solo, the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes winner who finished fifth in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 28, worked five furlongs from the starting gate in 59.65 seconds Thursday morning at the Palm Meadows training center in Florida. The April 4 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct is among the races trainer Chad Summers and owner Al Gold are considering for Napoleon Solo. “I thought he broke a little flat-footed in the Fountain of Youth,” Summers said when asked why he chose to work Napoleon Solo from the gate. “I’ve been watching the Kentucky Derby for 25 years and I’ve seen Bob Baffert do that, so if it’s good enough for him. . . . ” Dylan Davis was aboard for the workout, Summers said, though he is not necessarily expected to ride him in his next race. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
