Nanoosh, winner of the Zia Derby, heading to Oaklawn

Nanoosh, who won the $250,000 Zia Park Derby on Nov. 21, is getting a breather, said trainer Robertino Diodoro. Nanoosh won for the third straight race and earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 94 in the Zia Derby, his stakes debut.
“We’re going to give him a little break and head to Oaklawn,” said Diodoro. “We’ll just take it one step at a time right now. He came out of the race really well.”
Diodoro said Nanoosh shipped back to Turf Paradise following the Zia Derby and will head to Oaklawn the third week of December. The meet opens Jan. 25.
Nanoosh races for his breeder, Zayat Stables. He has won 4 of 7 starts, including all three this year. Nanoosh is a son of Paynter, who won the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational in 2012 for Zayat Stables.
Diodoro won a second race on the Zia Derby card, taking the $75,000 Zia Park Juvenile with Oil Money. Oil Money rolled by 3 1/2 lengths, covering six furlongs in a sharp 1:09.06. He earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 72. Oil Money has since returned to Turf Paradise.
“He’s going to have a little short break,” Diodoro said. “There is a chance he could run once in Phoenix, in the Lost in the Fog Stakes, but most likely we’ll wait until Oaklawn.”
Oil Money is a son of J P’s Gusto who races for Charles Garvey.
◗ Sky Promise, a multiple Grade 3 winner in Canada who ran fifth in the Zia Derby, is getting a break and will return to action next summer, likely at either Churchill or Canterbury, said trainer Robertino Diodoro.
