Nakatani gets one-day suspension for excessive whip use

CYPRESS, Calif. – Jockey Corey Nakatani has been suspended for next Thursday’s card for repeated incidents of excessive use of the whip, according to a ruling published by Los Alamitos stewards this week.
Nakatani was cited for his winning ride on Bolt d’Oro in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity last Monday. Nakatani was judged to have struck Bold d’Oro more than three times in succession without giving his mount a chance to respond. This was Nakatani’s fifth such offense in the last 60 days, leading to the one-day suspension.
Nakatani, 46, served a two-day suspension for a similar infraction in October 2015.
