Naissance Royale rallies

Naissance Royale gave jockey Garrett Gomez his 69th stakes win of the year in Sunday's $150,000 Las Palmas Handicap at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting, leaving the 35-year-old jockey one stakes win shy of tying the single-season record set by Jerry Bailey in 2003.

In the Grade 2 Las Palmas, Naissance Royale ($6.20) ran a mile on turf in 1:34.14. Gomez kept her on the inside for the first half of the race, and rallied wide on the second turn before pulling clear to win by 3 1/4 lengths over Black Mamba, the 8-5 favorite. Meribel finished third in the field of 10 fillies and mares.

Jockey Tyler Baze, who rode Black Mamba, filed an objection after being carried wide by Naissance Royale on the second turn, but there was no change to the order of finish.

Owned by Monceaux Stable, Naissance Royale has won 6 of 20 starts and $740,213.
