Naevussquall shortens up in Totah Stakes

Naevussquall will be making a notable distance move Tuesday in the $50,000 Totah, one of two stakes on a straight Thoroughbred program at SunRay Park in Farmington, N.M. The card also features the $50,000 C.O. Ken Kendrick Memorial. Both stakes are restricted to 2-year-olds bred in New Mexico.
The Totah, for colts and geldings, will be run over 4 1/2 furlongs. It is the distance at which Neavussquall won a division of the Copper Top Futurity in April at Sunland Park. He is the lone stakes winner in the 10-horse Totah, and his rivals include the second- and third-place finishers from that race, Seasalt N Vinegar and Casey Jones Who.
The C.O. Ken Kendrick Memorial is for fillies at 4 1/2 furlongs, and the field of 10 includes Tilla Cat, a maiden who has faced males in both of her starts, including last out when third in the Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso.
TOTAH (Race 8)
KEY CONTENDERS
Naevussquall (Last 3 Beyers: 52-49-0)
◗ He won his maiden in the Copper Top, powering to a 3 1/2-length win. It was his second career start, and he became the second Copper Top winner for his dam. She also produced Miss B R H, the winner of a division of the late-in-the-meet staple at Sunland Park.
◗ Naevussquall will be shortening up off a start in the 5 1/2-furlong Rio Grande Senor Futurity at Ruidoso. He split the field to finish fifth in the quick-paced race, and the Beyer Speed Figure of 52 that he earned is the best last-race number in the Totah. Naevussquall could be closer to the pace Tuesday.
◗ Fred Danley trains Naevussquall, who will break from post 2 under Frank Reyes.
Dax ‘n’ Brax (Beyers: 41-0)
◗ He put it all together last out when a 7 1/4-length maiden winner in June at Ruidoso. The win came against open-company maidens, and he is back with statebreds Tuesday.
◗ Casey Lambert, who plans to retire from riding next month, has the mount for his father, trainer Cliff Lambert.
C.O. KEN KENDRICK MEMORIAL (Race 7)
KEY CONTENDERS
Tilla Cat (Beyers: 44-45)
◗ She was third in the Mountain Top Futurity won by Diabolical King, who since that June 20 race at Ruidoso has returned to capture an allowance at that track and run second in the Rio Grande Senor Futurity.
◗ The Rio Grande Senor Futurity became a key race after both Diabolical King and fifth-place finisher What A Flag returned in their next starts to win allowances at Ruidoso.
◗ Tilla Cat will be making her first start against fillies Tuesday, as she made her debut against males in a trial for the Rio Grande Senor. She finished third in that June 5 trial.
◗ Ruby Gonzalez has the mount for trainer Todd Fincher.
Domesday Gal (Last 3 Beyers: 45-14-30)
◗ She is one of two starters in the field who can claim a win at SunRay. She rolled by four lengths in a maiden special weight race at the track July 26, while Rogue Divergent was a 4 1/4-length debut winner July 14 at SunRay.
◗ Domesday Gal is a half-sister to stakes winner If I Had a Bull.
