Nadette, winless in 12 starts since May 2022, rallied from last of 10 to score her first graded stakes win in Thursday’s Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on turf at Santa Anita.
The $102,500 Wilshire Stakes was scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed to Thursday because of weekend rain.
Nadette, ridden by Hector Berrios, unleashed a rally through the final three furlongs that carried her to the front well before the finish. She was timed in 1:34.16.
Berrios kept Nadette on the inside on the turn and moved outside of stretch leader Stay and Scam in the final sixteenth. Nadette, who won by two lengths, paid $8.60 as the second choice. Stay and Scam, the 9-5 favorite, finished second, 2 3/4 lengths clear of 50-1 Ascendancy.
The remaining order of finish was Turnerloose, Glenall, Leisurewear, School Dance, Adaay in Asia, Selenaia, and Thirty Carats.

Stay and Scam, winner of the Irish O’Brien Stakes for California-bred sprinters on turf on March 17, set an early pace of 23.15 seconds through the opening quarter-mile. She was briefly challenged by Adaay in Asia after a half-mile in 47.23 before retaking the lead on the turn. Stay and Scam led by 2 1/2 lengths with a furlong remaining.
Nadette, a 5-year-old mare by the Exceed and Excel stallion Outstrip, has won 4 of 19 starts racing in France and California. Owned by the Team Valor International partnership and trained by Neil Drysdale, Nadette won the Prix Finlande at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris in May 2022.
Nadette was imported to the United States and joined Drysdale’s stable that fall. The Wilshire Stakes was her 10th start in California. Nadette had finished second or third in four stakes before the Wilshire, including a third in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes at a mile on turf for fillies and mares on March 3.
