Mythical Mission's pedigree points her out in Shady Well
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The unraced Mythical Mission is one of four maidens in Saturday’s $150,000 Shady Well Stakes. But with her blue-blooded pedigree and the way she has been working, trainer Malcolm Pierce thinks Mythical Mission should be competitive in the 6 1/2-furlong turf sprint for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Mythical Mission, a Sam-Son Farm homebred, is a full sister to Irish Mission, who was Canada’s champion 3-year-old filly in 2012. The long-winded Irish Mission won the Woodbine Oaks and Breeders’ Stakes at 3 before going on to capture three Grade 3 turf stakes in the United States.
Mythical Mission is out of Wonder Where Stakes winner Misty Mission, who also produced the Grade 3-winning grass runner French Beret.
“She’s a maiden, but she’s trained quite forwardly,” said Pierce. “She’s come along quickly. She’s a big, strong filly. As long as she doesn’t look out of place in there, we probably will run. I’m thinking it’s more like an [allowance] race anyway.”
The supporting feature on Saturday’s card is an overnight stakes, the $100,000 Flaming Page, a 12-furlong turf marathon for fillies and mares.

◗ Her lone turf work was a five-furlong drill in 1:00.60 over the training course July 22.
“She had a good five-eighths on the turf,” Pierce said. “I had her out of the gate the last couple of times. She was a little slow when I went to get her gate card. That’s why I went back twice in a row, to make sure she was breaking properly.”
Financial Recovery, by Street Cry
◗ The Brian Lynch-trained first-timer recently worked three-quarters in 1:12.60 on the turf training course.
Green Freedom, by Not Bourbon
Last 3 Beyers: 57-56-63
◗ After romping in her debut, she finished a dull fifth in the Nandi Stakes but was beaten just a length when fourth most recently in the open My Dear Stakes.
◗ Her sire produced the turf stakes winner Internal Bourbon.
Reverse, by Colonel John
Last 3 Beyers: 52-48-44
◗ She raced three wide last time out when third in a six-furlong maiden special on the grass.
Flaming Page: Attfield sends two
Trainer Roger Attfield sends out Dyna’s Recoleta and Goodyearforroses in an attempt to win the Flaming Page for a sixth time.
Goodyearforroses won the 11-furlong allowance prep for the race convincingly. Dyna’s Recoleta won an allowance at Keeneland in April and finished seventh here in the Grade 2 Nassau and sixth in a second-level optional claimer.
Villa Savoye, trained by Tom Albertrani for Godolphin Racing, could go favored off a fourth in the 12-furlong River Memories Stakes at Belmont. The winner of the River Memories, Guapaza, exited that race to take the Grade 3 Waya at Saratoga.
