Mystic Guide in danger of missing Pegasus World Cup

Mystic Guide’s preparation for the $3 million Pegasus World Cup hit a snag last week when the 3-year-old colt spiked a temperature, said trainer Michael Stidham.
“He’s doing well now, and he’s been temp-free the last three days,” Stidham said. “He was coughing a little and must have caught a little virus.”

Mystic Guide merely walked the shed row in recent mornings and now has not posted a workout since Dec. 15. Mystic Guide, who won the Jim Dandy at Saratoga and most recently was second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, still has time to make the Jan. 23 Pegasus at Gulfstream, but only if everything goes perfectly, Stidham said.
“We’d have to be able to start galloping in the next day or two and then get a work in him, and right now, we’re sitting on hold,” he said.
