Myositis Dan running for a cause
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Myositis Dan is running for a cause in Saturday’s Grade 1 King’s Bishop at Saratoga.
Owner Brereton Jones named Myositis Dan after a friend who died from myositis, a disease that causes inflammation of the muscles and affects about 75,000 people in the United States.
Jones donates half of the earnings from the horse to the Myositis Association, an international nonprofit based in Virginia that serves myositis patients and their families through education, support, and funding research.
Myositis Dan, a son of Istan trained by Tom Proctor, finished third, beaten a head by Travers favorite Bayern, in the Grade 3 Derby Trial in his most recent start on dirt.
Myositis Dan enters the King’s Bishop off a 3 1/4-length allowance win over Arlington’s synthetic surface.
