Mybigitalianfriend gets a test in allowance

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Though Mybigitalianfriend has won all of her three starts for him, trainer Jason Servis said “the jury’s still out” on the 4-year-old daughter of Union Rags.
Perhaps a verdict on her talent level will be reached in Thursday’s 10th race, when Mybigitalianfriend seeks her fourth win at the Gulfstream Park meet in a second-level allowance for female sprinters that serves as the co-feature on an 11-race card that begins at 1:15 p.m. Eastern.
Mybigitalianfriend didn’t show much in two starts last summer in New York for trainer Chad Brown. She was transferred to Servis by owners Michael Dubb, Sol Kumin, and Michael Caruso.
Mybigitalianfriend won an off-the-turf maiden event by 11 1/2 lengths on Dec. 16 and then came back with an allowance win against Florida-breds on Jan. 24. Fifteen days after that, she won an open first-level allowance by 2 3/4 lengths. In that last race, Servis opted for the sprint race rather than a mile race in the same condition that came up significantly more difficult, though he does plan on stretching her out at some point.
“She got lucky and caught three good spots,” Servis said. “I guess we’ll see Thursday.”
Mybigitalianfriend will break from post 5 under Irad Ortiz Jr.
The horse Mybigitalianfriend has to beat is Heiressall, who returns from a 5 1/2-month layoff for trainer Terri Pompay.
Heiressall, a Florida-bred daughter of Wildcat Heir, had her own three-race winning streak snapped when she finished third in the Millions Distaff Sprint at Gulfstream Park West last Nov. 10. Pompay said that Heiressall needed some time, in part due to foot issues that developed shortly after that last race.
Pompay enters the race quite confident in her filly’s chances.
“Her last couple of breezes have been really good,” Pompay said. “I expect her to be really tough in there. She just looks like she’s going to be the one to beat.”
Miguel Vasquez has the call from post 2.
Day by Day finished second to Mybigitalianfriend on Feb. 8 and was claimed out of that race for $25,000 by Armando De La Cerda. Day by Day has been claimed in each of her last three starts and is available for $62,500 on Thursday.
She picks up the services of Luis Saez, who enters the final four days of the meet one win behind Irad Ortiz for leading rider.
There should be a legitimate pace in this six-furlong race with Awesome Mass and Lady’s Island in the field.
Sean’s Idea and Tulsa Queen complete the lineup.
Entering Thursday, there is a $2,455,348 carryover in the Rainbow 6, which begins in race 6.
Dubb, Kumin, and Caruso – along with Stuart Grant – are also live in race 9, a first-level allowance/optional claimer going a mile on turf. They have Salsa Bella, trained by Jorge Abreu. Salsa Bella finished fifth in a similar spot on March 3, her first start off a 10-month layoff.
“She had to deal with a little bit of traffic,” Abreu said. “But it was a very good race.”
Salsa Bella is somewhat pace reliant and would benefit from a duel between Swayed and Designing.
