My Wandy’s Girl sharp in work

ELMONT, N.Y. – Watching My Wandy’s Girl zip through the stretch of Belmont Park’s main track Monday morning, trainer Mike Hushion said the mare is “typically not a good work horse, but she likes this main track.”
Apparently so. My Wandy’s Girl was credited with a half-mile time of 46.89 seconds by the Belmont clockers as she prepares for a start in Sunday’s Grade 2, $250,000 Ruffian Stakes at a mile. It was her second consecutive bullet work over the main track.
In the Ruffian, My Wandy’s Girl will be making her first start since taking the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie at Laurel Park. Hushion said he didn’t run in the 11 weeks between races because “with our year-end goals, [nothing] fit in as much as this race.”
Hushion said his year-end goal is trying to make My Wandy’s Girl a Grade 1 winner in the U.S. She won two races recognized as Group 1 stakes in Puerto Rico.
Hushion will also be represented in the Ruffian by Parc Monceau, a recent allowance winner over Aqueduct’s main track on April 4.
“I think she’s ready to take a step forward,” Hushion said. “She won, and she won reasonably well, and she’s put on weight and looks great, better than she’s looked before.”
Grace Hall, also pointing to the Ruffian and now trained by Bill Mott, worked four furlongs in 48.04 seconds Monday morning at Belmont. Provided she works well on Tuesday, Dreaming of Julia is expected to make her long-awaited return to the races in the Ruffian, trainer Todd Pletcher said.
