By My Standards, C Z Rocket lead field of eight in Steve Sexton Mile

By My Standards and C Z Rocket will meet on Memorial Day at Lone Star Park in the Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile. The meet’s richest race drew eight older horses when entries were taken on Monday.
The Sexton Mile will anchor Lone Star Million Day, which is being run for the first time since 2011. The card features five stakes, including the $300,000 Texas Derby that drew Arkansas Derby winner Super Stock. First post for the 11-race program is 2:20 p.m. Central.
By My Standards will break from post 3 under Gabe Saez. He enters the Sexton Mile off a win in the $400,000 Oaklawn Park Mile on April 10. Bret Calhoun trains By My Standards, an earner of $2 million owned by Allied Racing Stable and Spendthrift Farm.
C Z Rocket will start from post 8. He is moving back to two turns following a win in the Grade 3, $500,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap on April 10 at Oaklawn. Florent Geroux has the mount for trainer Peter Miller. C Z Rocket races for Tom Kagele, Madaket Stables, and Gary Barber.
The trainers of both By My Standards and C Z Rocket have said one of the appeals of the Steve Sexton Mile is the opportunity to continue to race their charges on the diuretic Lasix. In new protocols this year, some tracks are running their stakes for older horses Lasix-free.

“We want to be a little conservative, keep him on Lasix this time, and keep working forward,” Calhoun said last Thursday.
Miller shared similar sentiments in April.
"At some point, we’re going to have to run him without Lasix, but hopefully later than sooner,” he said.
“I think it’s important to protect him, to protect his lungs.”
The complete Sexton Mile field from the rail with riders is: Silver Prospector, Ricardo Santana Jr.; Sheriff Brown, Ty Kennedy; By My Standards, Saez; Warrior’s Charge, Joel Rosario; Hunka Burning Love, David Cabrera; Harvey Wallbanger, Danny Sorenson; Mo Mosa, Ramon Vazquez; and C Z Rocket, Geroux.
The Sexton Mile is carded as the 11th race, with a post of 7:35 p.m. Central.
Super Stock enters the Texas Derby off a 16th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby. He will start from the outside post in a field of 10 and be ridden by Santana. Steve Asmussen trains Super Stock, who last year won a division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity at Lone Star.
The complete Texas Derby field from the rail with riders is Scarred, Stewart Elliott; Rightandjust, David Cabrera; It’s My House, Reylu Gutierrez; Mr. Wireless, Ramon Vazquez; Warrant, Rosario; Say It Ain’t Soni, Leandro Goncalves; First Avenue, Weston Hamilton; Dreamer’s Disease, David Cohen; Get Her Number, Geroux; and Super Stock, Santana.
The Texas Derby goes as the ninth race, with a post of 6:31 p.m. The stakes will run consecutively starting in the seventh race, with the $100,000 Memorial Day Sprint for fillies and mares at six furlongs. The $100,000 Chamberlain Bridge over five furlongs on turf goes as the eighth, and the $200,000 Ouija Board for fillies and mares at a mile on turf goes as race 10.
The forecast for Monday is a high of 85 degrees and a 10 percent chance of rain, according to The Weather Channel.
