My Sister Pearl showdown of top West Virginia-bred females

The best West Virginia-bred fillies and mares at Charles Town will meet Saturday night in the $50,000 My Sister Pearl. The eight-horse field includes the winners of three Breeders Classics Night stakes in October and the winner of the Sadie Hawkins in September.
Candy Man’s Girl won the $135,000 Cavada Breeders Classic, but it was run at seven furlongs and the My Sister Pearl is a 1 1/8-mile race. This will be Candy Man’s Girl’s first race beyond seven furlongs and her first around three turns.
Spa Creek rebounded from a fifth-place finish in the seven-furlong Sadie Hawkins to win the 1 1/8-mile Breeders Classic Distaff by four lengths. She also won the race last year. Trained by Jeff Runco, the 6-year-old daughter of Smoke Glacken is the horse to beat Saturday, but it should be noted the track was sloppy for the Breeders Classics and Spa Creek is now 2 for 2 over wet tracks. The track is expected to be fast Saturday.
The 3-year-old Romantic Cork stayed with her age group on the Breeders Classics card and rallied from far back to win the seven-furlong Division of Tourism by a length. Trained by John Casey, Romantic Cork makes her first start beyond seven furlongs.
Navy Ribbon has not fared well since winning the Sadie Hawkins. She weakened to finish sixth in the Cavada and has since been fourth in an allowance race.
The field also includes Red Hot Diva, who won this race by 7 1/2 lengths a year ago. She has finished third in her last three starts, all stakes, including the Cavada and Sadie Hawkins.
