My Pardner Cal put away pacesetter Magnum Mills in the final furlong and earned his second career stakes victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Jeffrey Radosevich Memorial Stakes for Ohio-accredited 2-year-olds at Mahoning Valley Race Course.

Magnum Mills, the 3-1 third choice in a field of 10, led through pressured fractions of 23.50 and 47.99 seconds, but My Pardner Cal ($5.60) surged to take a narrow lead at the top of the stretch, and responded to left-handed whipping by jockey Perry Ouzts inside the eighth pole to draw clear by 3 1/4 lengths. The winning time for six furlongs over a sealed track rated fast was 1:14.80.

Magnum Mills settled for second, 2 3/4 lengths in front of first-time starter Buckeye Bullet, who ran well to finish a clear third, 5 1/2 lengths in front of his closest competition. Bold Johnny, second to My Pardner Cal in the Loyalty Stakes in September, beat out 64-1 outsider Daggers Duel by a head for fourth as the 9-5 second choice.

A son of Big Atlantic trained by Larry Smith for owner Richard Alderson, My Pardner Cal is now 2 for 4 lifetime.

Deniro's Saint scores as heavy favorite in Bobbie Bricker Memorial

The 5-year-old mare Deniro’s Saint posted her second straight stakes win of the meet in the $75,000 Bobbie Bricker Memorial Handicap for Ohio-accredited fillies and mares.

Deniro’s Saint ($2.80), ridden by Luis Gonzalez for trainer Josh Faulkner and owner Joe Faulkner, took the lead from pacesetter Hope’s Frog Song at the top of the stretch and drew clear to win by 3 3/4 lengths. She completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:51.35 for her eighth lifetime victory in 24 starts.

“I was very confident the whole way," Gonzalez said. "She is so good right now. I just let her tell me when she wanted to go and she went.”

Hope’s Frog Song, who led by 3 1/2 lengths after the opening six furlongs in 1:16.23, held off Startin Something by a nose for second.
