My List runs down heavy favorite

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - My List ($13) overtook even-money favorite Bear Now in deep stretch to capture the $157,100 Whimsical Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

Things set up beautifully in the six-furlong sprint for My List, who raced well off a rapid pace set by the dueling leaders, Shot Gun Ela and Marina Ballerina. Bear Now loomed into contention on the turn, and went by Shot Gun Ela around the sixteenth pole.

My List commenced a wide rally exiting the turn, and got up to score by three-quarters of a length, in a time of 1:09.71. Bear Now finished another three-quarters in front of Shot Gun Ela, who held third in the nine-horse field of fillies and mares.

"She ran a big race," said Eurico Da Silva, who rode My List for trainer Nick Gonzalez. "She was relaxed, and very professional. The way the speed was today, I preferred to stay [off the pace] because I knew she'd make a good move."

In her first start since taking the Nov. 25 Bessarabian Stakes, My List earned $90,000 for Tucci Stable.
