My Heart Goes On ran her record to 2 for 2 with a hard-fought victory Sunday in the $45,000 Angie C. Stakes at Emerald Downs. Sent off as the second choice in the meeting’s first stakes event for 2-year-old fillies, My Heart Goes On edged runner-up Princess Kennedy by a head while sprinting six furlongs in 1:11.25. She paid $8.40. Kiss My Lulu, the 1-2 favorite, finished third, two lengths behind the winner. She was followed by Jerre to Carrie and Pebble Beach in a field of five. My Heart Goes On led throughout under Juan Gutierrez but was all out to hold off Princess Kennedy, who steadied going into the turn and raced wide all the way around. Kiss My Lulu shadowed My Heart Goes On into the final furlong but lacked the needed punch. My Heart Goes On, trained by David Martinez for Barbara Ratcliff’s Coal Creek Farm, won a maiden race July 5 in her only previous start. By Albertus Maximus, she’s the first foal from the speedy Value Plus mare My Untamed Heart. My Heart Goes On was bred by her owner, who pocketed $24,750 from the Angie C. purse, increasing the filly’s earnings to $36,025. She could be seen next in the $50,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs Aug. 15.
