My Gi Gi retired, to be bred to Medaglia d’Oro

Grade 2 winner My Gi Gi has been retired from racing, and will be bred to Medaglia d’Oro with the intent to sell the mare at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale.

The 5-year-old E Dubai mare finishes her career with two wins in 18 career starts for earnings of $334,290. She was campaigned for the majority of her career by Dennis Conner and Wade Jacobsen, and was trained by Peter Eurton.

My Gi Gi’s most notable win came in the 2012 renewal of the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap at Hollywood Park, and she registered in-the-money finishes in the Grade 1 American Oaks, the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes, Yellow Ribbon Handicap and Royal Heroine Mile, and the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes.

“She has really done enough for us,” the mare’s owners said in a joint statement. “She beat Lady of Shamrock, Stormy Lucy, and Byrama among others. She was always sound, she retired sound and she always gave it her all. We felt like with her being out of a Sadler’s Wells stakes winner who was [Group] 1 placed in the [Epsom] Oaks, she would make a great addition to someone’s broodmare band in foal to [Medaglia d’Oro].”

Bred in Kentucky by Darley, My Gi Gi was a $6,500 purchase out of the 2010 Keeneland September sale. She is out of the English classic-placed stakes-winning Sadler’s Wells mare Relish The Thought, whose four winners from seven foals to race include stakes-placed Druid’s Lodge and New Mexico.
