My Gal Betty could try dirt after freshening

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Following her ninth-place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2, My Gal Betty is now down in Florida with trainer Roger Attfield at Payson Park training center. Attfield said My Gal Betty would get a few weeks off before picking up her training toward the end of December.
“She’s enjoying a little bit of down time,” he said. “She’s in good shape and enjoying a little break. I was going to give her until the middle of December anyways before I pick her up. I may even leave it until Christmas time and then I’ll get her ready.”
While Attfield didn’t have any particular races in mind for her, he is hoping to run My Gal Betty while in Florida.

“I would experiment a little bit and see how she is on the dirt, too,” he said. “We’ve never had her on the dirt. I don’t believe I ever worked her on the training track up there, even.”
Attfield said My Gal Betty did not handle the yielding turf well in the Breeders’ Cup, but he was still proud of her campaign. My Gal Betty recorded a win in the Catch A Glimpse Stakes, and a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes. She also crossed the finish line first in the My Dear Stakes, but was disqualified and placed third.
“She had a really good year,” Attfield said. “It was a pity she got taken down in that one race. Even though she didn’t handle the turf [in the Breeders’ Cup] at all, it was still a really good effort, actually.”
