My Dear Girl winner Atomically sold, with Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies a possibility
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla - Atomically, impressive winner last Saturday at Gulfstream Park of the My Dear Girl Stakes, the finale of the filly division of the Florida Sire Stakes, has been sold privately to Eclipse Thoroughbreds, her owner-breeder-trainer, Jose Pinchin, reported Saturday.
Atomically, a homebred daughter of Girvin, was bred by Pinchin and co-owner Michael Bernard. She did not make her career debut until Aug. 13, finishing third in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight dash. She won virtually unchallenged in two subsequent starts, winning her maiden in wire-to-wire fashion going seven furlongs by seven lengths before rallying from off the pace to a 6 3/4-length triumph in the one mile and one-sixteenth My Dear Girl.
Atomically’s final time of 1:45.64 in the My Dear Girl was more than a second faster than the undefeated Awesome Strong covered the same distance completing a sweep of the colts and geldings division of the Sire Stakes an hour later on last Saturday’s card. Atomically earned a career-best 77 Beyer Speed Figure.
Pinchin said he had no regrets parting ways with Atomically after only three starts.
“This is what I do for a living - I breed them and try to sell them,” said Pinchin. “She’s the best filly I ever had. We missed the first two legs of the Sire series because she bucked shins earlier this year, and I was playing catch-up with her ever since. I hope she goes on to win the Breeders’ Cup because I own both her mother and sister.”
Trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed that Atomically will leave South Florida on Sunday to join his stable at Keeneland and said she could be pointed to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 4.
“We’ll see how she trains,” Pletcher said.
