My Boy Tate tries for third Hollie Hughes trophy

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – My Boy Tate will seek a third victory in the $100,000 Hollie Hughes Stakes when the 8-year-old gelding makes his fourth appearance in the six-furlong sprint for New York-breds on Saturday at Aqueduct.
My Boy Tate won the Hollie Hughes in 2018 and 2021. He finished second to Amundson in 2020.
My Boy Tate, trained, bred, and part-owned by Michelle Nevin, finished first in the Say Florida Sandy Stakes on Jan. 8, but was disqualified and placed fourth. Eric Cancel attempted to split horses with My Boy Tate and he bumped with Chestertown, who finished third.
“I feel like he won the race,” Nevin said. “It was a bad call on the jock’s part. You’re on the best horse, I felt. Just split-second decisions can cost you. Had he hung on and just gone around them he probably still wins the race.”
Manny Franco, aboard for the 2021 Hollie Hughes victory, is back on My Boy Tate on Saturday.
My Boy Tate drew post 4 in a six-horse field that includes, from the inside out, Kaz’s Beach, Wudda U Think Now, Jemography, South Africa, and Runningwscissors.
