Munnys Gold has stakes options after 88 Beyer return

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Munnys Gold won her second race about as easily as her first, earning an 88 Beyer Speed Figure in a 6 1/4-length romp here Wednesday in a first-level allowance restricted to Florida-breds. The 3-year-old Munnings filly got six furlongs in 1:10.78, returning $2.20 as a huge favorite under Irad Ortiz Jr.
Trained by Todd Pletcher for Robert and Lawana Low, Munnys Gold was making her first start in more than seven months. Her only prior race came last June at Monmouth Park, where she won a five-furlong maiden race by 14 1/2 lengths to earn a 101 Beyer.
Pletcher said trying a graded stakes by stretching her out to a mile in the Davona Dale on March 4 is “a possibility,” although “it’s more likely we’ll probably want to wait” for the six-furlong Any Limit on March 18.
White Frost returns sharp
White Frost earned a career-high 91 Beyer as a convincing winner in a second-level allowance going a mile on turf Thursday. It was just the second start for the 5-year-old mare since she won the Sweetest Chant over the Gulfstream turf as a 3-year-old in January 2021.
White Frost, trained by Bill Mott for owner-breeder Gainesway Stable, was ridden by Junior Alvarado, who has been aboard in all six starts.
“I think she’s even a little better now than when I used to ride her,” Alvarado said.
Pimentel rides first U.S. winner
Jockey Ivan Pimentel Jr. notched his first victory in the United States when he upset the second race Wednesday at Gulfstream aboard Chiquirin, an 18-1 shot.
Pimentel, 39, had ridden 28 races, all at Gulfstream, prior to the breakthrough. Gulfstream publicity reported he won about 700 races in his native Venezuela before moving to the United States.

◗ Trainer Mark Casse reaffirmed Thursday evening after Wonder Wheel was honored with the Eclipse Award for top 2-year-old filly of 2022 that she is still being pointed to the Suncoast Stakes for her first start at 3.
