Munnyfor Ro survives slow pace in Ontario Damsel

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Woodbine Oaks winner Munnyfor Ro overcame a slow pace to beat a quality field in Sunday’s $142,500 Ontario Damsel Stakes at Woodbine.
Munnyfor Ro ($5.30) saved ground behind the leaders in the 1 1/16-mile route for 3-year-old fillies, as Salty as Can Be led the way with Gold for Kitten in close proximity.
Justin Stein angled Munnyfor Ro into the four path for the drive, and she got the split before hitting the front with a sixteenth left en route to a one-length score, in a time of 1:45.36.
Oyster Box closed from sixth to edge out Gold for Kitten for second. Salty as Can Be, Seasons, Sweet Souper Sweet, and Lady War Machine completed the order of finish.
“I expected a little more pace, but I was in a good spot,” Stein said. “She was sitting comfortably in behind the slower pace, in the right spot for those kind of fractions. When I called on her, she was there. She gave me everything.”
Munnyfor Ro collected $90,000 for Raroma Stable, which boosted her bankroll to $678,500.
Trainer Kevin Attard said Munnyfor Ro is done for the year. The daughter of Munnings is the leading candidate for Canadian champion 3-year-old filly honors, and is a Canadian Horse of the Year candidate as well.
