Munnyfor Ro rallies wide in clear to take Wonder Where Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Favored Woodbine Oaks winner Munnyfor Ro overcame a wide trip under Justin Stein to capture the $250,400 Wonder Where Stakes over 15-1 shot Miss Marie on Saturday at Woodbine.
Munnyfor Ro ($4.60) raced three wide among a host of stalkers in a 1 1/4-mile turf event, as Youens set slow fractions with Emmeline pressing her all the way.
Munnyfor Ro was fanned eight wide entering the stretch before closing steadily to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths, in a time of 2:05.36 over a course labeled as good.
Cielo d’Oro checked in a length behind Miss Marie in third. She was followed by Bequia, Youens, Il Malocchio, Pemberley, Tranquil Sky, and Emmeline.
“She’s all racehorse,” Stein said. “She has a nice, efficient stride and a strong kick down the stretch. Reading the form, you could see there was no real speed. We were forwardly placed. She was on the bridle, and I just had to settle her into stride and wait to turn her loose.”

The Woodbine Oaks was the opening leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara, a series for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies. Munnyfor Ro skipped the middle leg, the Bison City Stakes, after finishing fourth against the boys in the Queen’s Plate. The Wonder Where was the anchor of the series, and the victory makes her a shoo-in for Canadian champion 3-year-old filly honors.
“I thought she’s blossomed a lot since her race in the Queen’s Plate,” trainer Kevin Attard said. “She’s matured from a physical standpoint. She’d trained really well heading into this race. It was just nice to see it all come together today and get the job done. Sometimes, when you’re on the best horse, you just got to put them in the clear, and that’s what Justin did today.”
Munnyfor Ro, a daughter of the popular Munnings, earned $150,000 for Raroma Stable.
