HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Fluffy Socks, the five-time stakes winner and $1.3 million earner, will scratch from Saturday’s Grade 2, $500,000 Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park due to an injury and will be retired, owner Sol Kumin said Friday. Fluffy Socks was the 5-1 third choice on the morning line. Kumin, who bred and owned this horse under Head of Plains Partners, said that trainer Chad Brown informed him Thursday that Fluffy Socks was off in her left hind leg. X-rays showed a faint line which could lead to a condylar fracture. “I’m bummed, but she did us right,” Kumin said. Kumin said that Fluffy Socks will be shipped to Dell Ridge Farm in Kentucky while he chooses a stallion for her. A 7-year-old daughter of Slumber, Fluffy Socks had a record of 6-9-5 from 30 starts with earnings of $1,379,565. Her stakes wins included the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante at 2, the Grade 2 Sands Point at 3, the Grade Churchill Downs Turf Mile at 5, and the Grade 3 Gallorette at 6. Also expected to scratch from the Pegasus are Ocean Club and See You Around, leaving a field of 11. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
