La Cara, a multiple Grade 1 winner of $1.2 million, is going to be retired to the breeding shed, according to her trainer, Mark Casse. He said she is scheduled to be bred to Not This Time. La Cara registered her biggest wins in last year’s Acorn and Ashland. She has run fifth in both of her starts this year, both on wet tracks in the Grade 2 Azeri last weekend at Oaklawn and the Grade 3 Houston Ladies Classic in January at Sam Houston. Casse said the decision to retire La Cara had to do with timing as the current breeding season is in session. The daughter of Street Sense races for her breeder, Tracy Farmer. “It’s a shame she never could catch a fast track,” Casse said. “But we’re at a point in time now where we had to decide whether we wanted to wait another year, and she’s already a multiple Grade 1 winner, so there’s not a lot more for her to accomplish.” – additional reporting by Nicole Russo :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
