Mucho Macho Man in no rush to return to work tab

Shigeki Kikkawa Mucho Macho Man trains at Santa Anita on Sunday. He comes into the Santa Anita Handicap off a 14-length romp in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream.
Trainer Kathy Ritvo said Friday that Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man continues to gallop regularly but is still several weeks away from returning to the work tab. Mucho Macho Man finished a disappointing fourth as the favorite in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap in his last start.
“I just decided to back off on him a little bit after he made the trip back from California,” said Ritvo. “He’s doing well and galloping early every morning, but there isn’t a lot for him right now, so we just felt it was best to give him a little break, considering our main goal this season remains the Breeders’ Cup Classic. At the moment, we’ve got nothing specific picked out for his next start.”
