Mubtaker wins Freer again

Mubtaker won the Group 2 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury, England, for the third straight year on Saturday.

Owned by Hamdan al Maktoum and trained by Marcus Tregoning, Mubtaker defeated Dubai Success by 2 1/2 lengths, with Compton Bolter third and The Great Gatsby fourth and last in the about 1 5/8-mile race. The 3-10 favorite, Mubtaker ran the distance on good going in 2:50.69 under Richard Hills.

The $182,000 Freer was the first race for Mubtaker, 7, since he finished second in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe last fall.
